Volta region in Ghana calling to be recognized as an independent state
In 2016, a group in Ho, located in the Volta region of Ghana called The Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) called for the region to be called West Togoland and be recognized as an Independent entity.
HSGF stated that West Togoland existed and was not part of Ghana at the time of its independence.
In a meeting held on August 16, 2016, HSGF chairman G.Y Agrah stated to the regional chiefs that the Ho was not part of Ghana. HSGF stated that the region was to establish as an independent state on May 9, 2017. If negotiations failed, Ho would remain an appendix to Ghana.
Chairman Agrah mentioned that at the time, it had been 102 years since West Togoland joined Ghana “through the machinations of the British colonialists and had created several impediments in the way of citizens although world historical documents had revealed that Western Togoland was a state and not a territory of Ghana,” Graphic Online mentioned.
