Birama Toure
Family and colleagues are still worried about the whereabouts of Malian investigative journalist, Birama Toure, who disappeared on January 29, 2016. The reporter with the investigative weekly The Sphinx, left his house at Bamako, the capital, to visit his relatives in Sebenikoro, a suburb of the Malian capital. He has since not been seen. All efforts by the government and other officials to find the missing journalist have not yielded results.
The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), last year, called on the Malian authorities to “deploy every effort and resource towards unraveling the mystery behind Birama’s disappearance.” It said, “failure to properly investigate the matter and ensure justice will only entrench impunity in the country.”
