5 prolific filmmakers who pioneered the African film industry

Jamie Uys – South Africa

Most popular for his movie The Gods Must Be Crazy, Jamie Uys was a South African filmmaker whose passion was to see more movies done in South Africa by South Africans in their indigenous languages. Born and raised in South Africa at a time of tension and racism, Jamie is applauded for bridging the gap between white South Africans and Balck South Africans in the movie industry. Many of his movies are comedies that tackle everyday social issues in South Africa. Jamie has more than 15 movies to his credit in both English and Afrikaans and became a millionaire through his chosen career inspiring many more South Africans to enter the film industry. He died in 1996 at the age of 74.
