Masquerades

Another form of cultural expression is masks and masquerades. They not only provide entertainment but also define social roles- most of them come with a spiritual element. In most tribes, the masquerades are usually conducted by men and at specific ceremonies and after certain seasons of the year. Some night masquerades are carried out by specific members who have undergone an initiation process.  Communities in Nigeria and Sierra Leone still practice masquerades.
