A Raisin in the Sun

This 1961 adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry’s iconic play highlights the importance of family in the African-American community. Starring Ruby Dee and Sidney Poitier, A Raisin in the Sun is a story of a working-class Chicago family that is not certain about what should be done with the substantial insurance payment they were about to receive following the death of their patriarch. The movie talks about hope, opportunity, and ultimately the American Dream. Watch for more.
