Orji Uzor Kalu
Orji Uzor Kalu is the founder of Slok Holding, an African conglomerate with interests in shipping, banking, oil and gas, aviation, and media. He started his business at age 19, trading rice and palm oil. He amassed wealth and became popular in the early 80s when he was awarded a contract by the Nigerian military government to import and supply arms and ammunition to Nigeria’s defense forces. He was a two-term governor of Abia state in southeast Nigeria (1999 – 2007), and has an estimated net worth of $300 million.
Born on April 21, 1960, Kalu became a senator representing Abia State North Senatorial District and the Chief Whip of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Kalu is the Chairman of the Daily Sun newspaper and the Telegraph newspaper in Nigeria.
