NEW YORK, NY – Tuesday, April, 26th, 2011 – Adirée, the parent company and producer of Africa Fashion Week (New York) (AFWNY), launches today a brand new interactive website for the upcoming event. AFWNY is set to take place on July 14th, 15th and 16th at the Broad Street Ballroom in New York City’s financial district.
In 2010, AFWNY received an official proclamation from Mayor Bloomberg. In 2011, Mr. Bloomberg proclaimed New York’s first social media holiday and announced the launch of two new programs using social media platforms. These social media initiatives highlight Mr. Bloomberg’s focus on promoting cutting-edge and interactive technology by this generation’s innovators and entrepreneurs. The AFWNY new website, www.afwny.com, is a direct response to the focus as it is a clean platform representative of the parent company, Adirée, and incorporates new technology that put forth sponsors, partners and designers.
The website has been specially designed by Web Developer professional Akin Adebowale from Base Official (www.baseofficial.com) and official partner of Adirée. “We will be releasing original and artistic media content for AFWNY 2011 ,” said Akin.
“We created a clean platform to showcase the diverse, vibrant designers from the Diaspora. We included vibrant colors, incorporated videos, and added edgy visuals that will make a serious impact. According to sources like Hum News there is a social media boom taking off in Africa and we want to be able to reach and interact with everyone including those in Africa,” said Adiat Disu, Director of AFWNY.
AFWNY is produced by Adirée and include runway shows hosting 21+ designers from various countries in Africa and those of the African Diaspora, exhibitions, and industry networking events. Opening designer Korto Momolu and designers like Washington Roberts, Saint Wobil, AAMAA Couture, Bill Witherspoon and others will showcase. For more information about AFWNY visit www.afwny.com.
