American rapper Meek Mill has sparked outrage in Ghana after a music video he posted on Sunday, which appeared to have been shot at the country’s presidency, the Jubilee House. The rapper posted an Instagram reel disclosing that he was about to unveil a new track.
His video showed some parts of the Jubilee House, which serves as the office of the president and is also one of the highest security zones in the country. The frontage of the building and the main conference hall were seen in the video.
Ghanaians have condemned the video, which has since been deleted by the rapper. “Meek Mill really shot a music video at Jubilee House? This is the lowest point we can get as a country.
“What happened to “Jubilee House is a security zone” Even American Embassy in Ghana, you can’t take pictures and Ghana allows Jubilee House to become studio. We are FINISH,” a Twitter user wrote.
“This is the lowest point we can get as a country,” another user wrote.
Ghanaian lawmaker for the North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said people who allowed Meek Mill to shoot the video clip at the Jubilee House should be fired.
“All those responsible for this despicable desecration of the Jubilee House by Meek Mill must be fired immediately. How do those explicit lyrics from the president’s lectern project Ghana positively? Is Ghana’s seat of government no longer a high security installation?”
The presidency is yet to comment on the video. Meek Mill was in Ghana recently to perform at Afrochella and as part of his visit, he paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House. The music video was reportedly shot at the time of the visit.
