Ful medames
This ancient Egyptian breakfast is enjoyed throughout North Africa. It is a pre-Islamic or pre-Ottoman dish which was discovered around the 12th Dynasty Pharaonic tombs in Egypt which could indicate how popular the food was at the time.
This meal is a staple of the Egyptian diet and it is made by slowly simmering fava beans with freshly squeezed lemon juice, olive oil, garlic, and other local spices. This meal is very popular in Ramadan as it is ideal for breaking the fast.
