It is always satisfying to see people coming together for a good cause. A viral social media post pulled a community together to help a Rankin County man get a new truck.

Willie Berry suddenly had financial difficulties after his truck broke down, forcing him to walk or take public transportation to work.

After learning of this, his Pinelake Church family made the decision to raise money for a new truck by posting something on social media.

In less than 48 hours, the community responded with over $16,000 in donations.

Berry, accompanied by members of the community, recently got the opportunity to see his new Ford pickup truck for the first time at Noel Daniels Motor Company in Brandon.

Berry told WLBT3, “I’m excited about all the people that came through.”

According to community members, Berry is a pure spirit, and they knew getting him this truck was the appropriate thing to do.

“There’s just something about innocent human beings and they need to be protected and helped and loved and taken care of. And he is one of them. He is the most precious, innocent man you’ll ever meet in your life, and he needs help. He doesn’t have a lot of people, blood related. He’s got us though,” said organizer Amber Norsworthy.

In addition to raising enough funds for the truck, the community was able to cover Berry’s vehicle insurance for a full year.

Miles away in Caroline County, another community recently joined together to support Victoria Dickerson, a great-grandmother, and her young great-grandsons, ages three and four.

After the system failed, the family’s home was without air conditioning for weeks, and she was unable to afford the estimated $10,000 cost of a replacement system.

Inspired by her devotion for her children, her community jumped in to offer support as soon as she shared her story. Several companies offered to install a new system for free, and many others contributed to the cause.

F.H. Furr, an HVAC company, eventually installed Dickerson’s new air conditioner at her home for free.
