Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther won the award for Best Movie at this year’s BET Awards.
The ceremony was held yesterday and hosted by comedian and actor Jamie Foxx. Coogler and Michael B. Jordan accepted the award while Coogler made a brief and poignant speech about the impact the film has made on African-Americans.
He urged blacks to visit Africa if given the chance. He also expressed the shame some felt with having African lineage.
“If you can’t go, teach your children about Patrice Lumumba, Jomo Kenyatta and all the amazing Africans we’re attached to,” he expressed.
