April 11, 1881 – Spelman College was founded.

April 11, 1899 – Chemist, Percy Julian, was born.

April 11, 1966 – Emmett Ashford made history as the first Black major league umpire.

April 11, 2001 – Carolyn Payton, the first Black director of the U.S. Peace Corps, passed away.
