April 3

April 3, 1826 – Poet/orator James Madison Bell, author of the Emancipation Day poem, “The Day and the War,” was born.

April 3, 1950 – Historian, Carter G. Woodson, passed away.

April 3, 1968 – Dr. King gave his final speech, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop.”

 April 3, 1996 – Former Cleveland Mayor, Carl B. Stokes, passed away.

April 3, 1996 – Commerce Secretary, Ron Brown, in the Clinton administration, and 34 other distinguished business leaders died in an Air Force CT-43 plane crash at a mountainside near Dubrovnik, Croatia.
