April 2, 1802 –To legalize Slavery, Georgia ceded its western territory — the land that would become Alabama and Mississippi.

 April 2, 1984 – Coach John Thompson made history as the first Black coach to win an NCAA tournament.

 April 2, 1984 – Georgetown coach John Thompson becomes the first Black coach to win an NCAA basketball tournament.

April 2, 2012 – Sculptor Elizabeth Catlett passed away.
