Singer and philanthropist Bobby Brown and his wife, Alicia-Etheredge-Brown, have been awarded an honorary doctorate in humanity from Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University.
According to Style Magazine, their acknowledgment comes after the family’s outstanding charitable initiatives through the Bobbi Kristina Serenity House, which have had a huge influence on so many lives.
Brown founded the domestic violence-focused non-profit in remembrance of his daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who died in 2015. She died in a hospice in July 2015, six months after being discovered lifeless in a bathtub. The specifics were strikingly identical to how her mother, Whitney Houston, died three years earlier, at the age of 48.
Despite her passing, Bobbi Kristina Brown’s legacy endures in the hearts of people she touched, thanks to a group founded in her honor that works to protect essential resources such as mental health and transitional safe havens.
In addition to the many exciting activities, the event also included a live silent auction, which was won by one of the most legendary sports stars, Mike Tyson.
According to Black Enterprise, the honoree commemorated the event on social media with a video. “Our work with @bobbikristinaserenityhouse is only just beginning, and I’m honored to accept this prestigious title and honorary degree in Humanitarianism from @leaders.esteem.university,” he captioned his post.
“I am grateful and humbled to stand alongside my beautiful wife, @aliciaetheredgebrown as we accept the titles of Dr. Bobby Brown and Dr. Alicia Etheredge-Brown.”
Some netizens expressed their displeasure with the act of conferring doctorates on celebrities who they claimed accomplished nothing for them.
However, one internet user explained the award by writing, “Doctorate degrees embody scholarly achievements, specialization, and the advancement of knowledge within a particular field.”
“Honorary doctorate degrees celebrate exceptional accomplishments and contributions to society. Don’t compete where you don’t compare.”
