Boyz n the Hood

Before John Singleton directed 2 Fast and Furious, he kept movie lovers mesmerized with his 1991 film, Boyz n the Hood. The storyline of the movie focused on his own life experiences and was first auditioned during Singleton’s college days under the title, Summer of 84, the ringer reported. It was a drama that starred Ice Cube, Cuba Gooding Jr, and Morris Chestnut, among others. Singleton never anticipated it could be a success, but, at the US box office, the film gleaned $57.7 million and got a nomination at the Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director, as documented by movies fandom.
