Selma, a historical drama, resonated with many movie lovers who were interested in the events that led 1965’s Selma to Montgomery’s voting rights marches. It endeared itself to many because it took the spotlight from the faces of the historic march and celebrated the unsung women, men, and children who ensured the success of the 1965 class act. It is one of the riveting pieces produced by a black director, Ava DuVernay. The 2014 drama which starred David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, and Andre Holland, among others, was a box-office hit. It made $40 million dollars and earned the film four Golden Award nominations including Best Motion Picture, according to BET.
