Calypso
Calypso as a genre music is as recent as the mid-19th century. But it is built on a 17th-century import called Kaiso by slaves from West Africa.
Playing on percussion instruments during their preciously rare leisure times, slaves would mock their masters in a language unknown to the white men and women.
Calypso music is danceable. These days in the Caribbean, Calypso is a whole movement involving music, dance and artworks.
