In 2017, the president of Equatorial Guinea’s eldest son and vice-president, Teodorin Obiang was accused of money laundering and embezzlement of funds from the public.
The case was initiated in Paris. He was charged and his trial was held in absentia.
He was sentenced to three years in prison and many of his assets and earnings were seized.
