American Hip pop/ R & B singer, Chris Brown also known as Breezy earlier in the month gave Ghanaian connoisseurs a good taste of an American Live Concert at the much anticipated Hope City Launch and Independence Day Concert at the Accra Sport Stadium.
The singer was his usual or rather unusual energetic self on stage the whole time. The “Deuces” singer thrilled his many fans with an impressive catalogue of his hit songs, his energetic dance moves, flashlights and tons of dress changes, a feature which is lacking in a lot of the performances by American acts who have headlined one Concert or another in Ghana.
His performance lasted for over an hour with thousands and thousands of galvanized fans screaming out his name. Although his performance has been described as the best so far by many, to some, it has been the most controversial probably in Africa by far. But what’s a good show without controversy?
As if planned or staged Chris Breezy made sure that his performance was not only the best but one that will get Ghanaians talking for a long time. In one of his acts he asked if there were weed smokers in Ghana and suggested that “if anybody’s trippin on you smoking weed, f**k them”. But his vulgar statement and demeanor did not go down well with many Ghanaians. However, a lot has been said about this particular stunt. The organizers of the show have come out to say that it was just an act and that the substance pulled out was actually not the real “marijuana” as many stipulated but an electronic cigarette or cigar.
Again more sensibilities were offended when Chris Brown pulled Nigerian rapper and singer, Wiz Kid on stage for a repeat of a similar performance they did together in Nigeria last December. Some music enthusiasts thought that it was a low blow for the American singer to come and decide to do the “Azonto”, a dance which originated from Ghana with a Nigerian artist.
Even after the American singer’s quick exit from the motherland, there are still issues which stand unresolved by the organizers, media and the people, for instance, the alleged whopping one million dollars the American star pocketed for his performance.
All the same the concert turned out a great success.
