In case you missed it, Cameroonian basketball star Joel Embiid, who plays for the Philadelphia 76ers fulfilled his dream of becoming an NBA All-Star on Thursday after being named as an Eastern Conference starter alongside Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Kyrie Irving of the Boston Celtics, DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors and Greek-Nigerian star Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.

The 7’2” center over the past couple of years hasn’t hidden his admiration for Barbadian pop sensation Rihanna. In fact, if you keenly follow him on Twitter, you’ll know he has tried on several occasions to land a dream date with the multi-platinum superstar. Apparently, he tried shooting his shot, but Rihanna told him she would only go on a date with him if he became an NBA All-Star (ouch).

As the saying goes, hard work pays off. Embiid made the cut for the Eastern Conference NBA All-Star team and it looked like his dreams of landing that fairytale date would come through (yaaaaaay!). Curious to know if he’s still interested in hanging out with Rihanna after persistently trying since 2014? Let’s take a look at the timeline of events and his final reaction after being asked if he’ll make “the move” in a post-game interview.

Before Rihanna, there was Kim Kardashian.

But he switched his attention to Rihanna after realizing Kim K was married. The rest is history…

The curve…sorry Joel.

That did not stop him though! Thanks to a few photoshops and more “wooing”.

2016 and still crushing…because why not?!

Fast forward 2018. Joel Embiid moved on…When asked about Rihanna’s “terms and conditions” for the date in a post-game interview after his All-Star selection, the Cameroonian said he was no longer interested (damn). He said “She denied me back then. There’s no reason to go back to her,”. The 23-year-old center added, “So I gotta move on to the next one. There’s a lot of pretty women out there, and I’m beautiful, so I gotta move on to the next one.”

Well, one way or the other, we wish Joel the best of luck in his love life and congratulate him on his All-Star selection! #TrustTheProcess
