Kim Lamont Owens, also known as Kem, surprised a couple by honoring his pledge to be at their wedding. The 56-year-old R&B singer-songwriter made the trip to Jackson, Mississippi, to take part in the wedding of Preston and Myra Cobbins.
Preston proposed to Myra during one of Kem’s concerts while he was singing his hit love music “Share My Life”. Kem witnessed the proposal in the audience and deeply moved, he pledged to attend their wedding.
Kem surprised everyone, especially the bride, by not only showing up to the wedding but also giving a surprise performance, according to BOTWC.
In a heartwarming Instagram post, the music legend shared a recap of the event: “Congratulations again to @pcobbins1 & @karnita_ on your beautiful union. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your special day. #weddingseason is still among us, y’all.”
Fans in his comments praised his actions. One said, “I need to know how to get ahold of you when it’s my time to marry,” while another added, “So beautiful your voice just melts into everything thing such a flow. And the fact you never tried to upstage the couple like others other singers have done at wedding. You flowed right into. Kem you are an alright guy.”
Two years ago, Kem also surprised former Peoria school board president Greg Wilson and his wife Kim Wilson at their wedding. The three-time Grammy-nominated R&B singer and songwriter performed during the couple’s first dance.
Raised outside of Detroit, Michigan, Kem is popular for “I can’t stop loving you,” which won the Billboard Music Award for Top Adult R&B single in 2005. He was homeless for some time before he earned fame and he is always grateful to his wife for helping him to succeed.
