Amen drink from Ghana — RAW Africa

Alcohol

Known as “Shocker”, “Amen” and “Wengeze” in communities in Ghana, alcohol infused with weed has become the norm lately, despite its health concerns. In South Africa, local breweries have recently reported of brewing batches of gin mixed with hemp, while in Nigeria, celebrities are said to be consuming such drinks in large quantities.

Experts have condemned this practice, considering alcohol and marijuana are both depressants that slow down the central nervous system. It is difficult to trace the exact amount of THC, the main active compound in cannabis, in beverages, and that could cause people to ingest too much, food experts further warn.

Mixing alcohol and marijuana can also cause paranoia, which makes people make flawed or even fatal choices.
