Dayo Okeniyi has been chosen as a lead character in the upcoming Terminator: Genesis. The film is one of three films to be shot at Paramount Pictures and produced by Skydance Productions.

According to Deadline, the role came down to Okeniyi and John Boyega for not just this major film, but JJ Abrams’ Star Wars film as well. Okeniyi is best known for his role as Thresh in The Hunger Games and The Spectacular Now.

His character “is Danny Dyson, who is also the son of the brainiac cyborg developer Miles Dyson, played by Joe Morton inTerminator 2: Judgment Day. The young man holds the key to technology development that makes Skynet possible. He’s repped by UTA, Sweeney Entertainment, and attorney Joel McKuin.”

The film’s release date is set for July 1, 2015.
