Authorities in Detroit have brought charges against a 19-year-old woman after she allegedly killed her father and attempted to link his murder to a nonexistent intruder.
Per FOX 2 Detroit, the fatal shooting occurred in January, and inside the Dwyer Street residence that the suspect, Jimirra Ranell Gray-Young, shared with her father.
In the aftermath of the fatal incident, Gray-Young informed police that a gunshot rang out after she heard a glass break on the home’s backdoor while she was inside her bedroom.
But the suspect is said to have later altered her story, claiming on a certain occasion that she saw the intruder who gunned her father down.
Police, however, said that only Gray-Young and her father were captured by security footage as they made their way inside their home, adding that no intruder was seen in the video.
Prior to the shooting, authorities also said that Gray-Young made internet searches. Those searches included asking if a killer would be forgiven by God and how to make a gun fingerprint-free.
Gray-Young has since been charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm. She is being held without bond.

In related news, A former Detroit gas station clerk was sentenced to 20-50 years in prison in June 2025 for fatally shooting an unarmed customer following an argument over beef jerky, Face2Face Africa reported at the time.
Per ClickOnDetroit, the fatal incident happened at a Detroit ExxonMobil gas station in 2023. Authorities said the convicted former clerk, Moad Mohamed Al-Gaham, and the victim, Anthony McNary, engaged in an argument after the latter picked a beef jerky and put it in his pocket.
Al-Gaham is said to have confronted McNary, authorities said, adding that he searched the deceased victim’s pockets and retrieved the beef jerky before putting it on the shelf again.
In the wake of the confrontation, McNary is said to have offered to pay for the beef jerky, but Al-Gaham rejected the money and made the deceased victim exit the store. After McNary left, the store’s entrance was manually locked by Al-Gaham.
McNary, however, did not leave the premises as surveillance footage captured him outside the store and repeatedly walking toward the door. Al-Gaham is said to have later pointed a gun toward the window before opening fire on McNary, striking him in the head.
Al-Gaham was convicted after he was found guilty of second-degree murder. “We are grateful for the jury’s verdict and the judge’s sentence today of 20 to 50 years for Mr. Al-Gaham,” McNary’s family said in response to the verdict. “Nothing will bring our Anthony back to us and we miss him so much, but today gives us some sense of justice.”
