Parents are very particular when choosing godparents for their children as they also similarly play motherly and fatherly roles in their lives. Other things are also looked out for to ensure the children can relate with their godparents.
Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris, attested to it in a recent docuseries as she explained that her deceased father picked actress Elizabeth Taylor to be her godmother because she had experienced how it felt to grow up “in the spotlight,” E! News reported.
“There’s definitely a part of him that knew that we would have a very similar experience,” Paris, 26, said in the first episode of the BBC docuseries Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar. “I was homeschooled and because of that, I don’t know what it was like to be around other kids my age.”
Jackson, who was affectionately known as the King of Pop, died in June 2009. Taylor, on the other hand, passed away in March 2011. Jackson picking her to be his daughter’s godmother appeared to be something that was well thought of as Taylor similarly had famous parents, resulting in her being in the spotlight from a very young age. Taylor was also just 7 years old when she featured in her first movie in 1939.
Taylor and Jackson were also very close friends, and she was among the attendees at Jackson’s memorial in 2009. Paris’ godfather, Macaulay Culkin, similarly knows what it was like to shoot to stardom at a very young age. And during a 2018 interview with Marc Maron, the Home Alone star touched on their relationship.
“I am close with Paris,” Culkin said. “She is beloved by me.” Culkin, however, did not provide further information about Paris’ childhood as he stated that he’s “very protective” of the relationship they have.
“She’s tall, and beautiful and smart,” Culkin, 44, said. “It’s great.”
