Geselle Valera, a New Jersey resident, shared a video that has gone viral on social media of herself getting ready for the Beyoncé “Renaissance” Concert in a dress designed by her father.
The 27-year-old captioned the video, “My dad put this together the night before @joseperalta693 but the amazing idea came from non other than MUTHAAAAA @mallelyne_p.”
Valera filmed her father fitting the material on her and sewing it together on his machine. She then appears in the video with the finished product—a printed two-piece inspired by the David Koma look Beyoncé wore on tour, which was styled by KJ Moody. She accessorized the look with cowboy boots and sunglasses, which many have won to the Renaissance tour.
Valera told mitú, “I didn’t have an outfit for the Beyoncé concert, and my older cousin—who is like a sister — was on FaceTime with me Wednesday night trying to find something on Amazon. Of course, everything in silver was sold outttttttt.”
She explained that she was stressed because nothing was going to arrive on time. According to her, her cousin found something and encouraged her to have her father make it look like what Beyoncé wore. She recounted that the package arrived on Friday, and she dashed home from work to have her father remake the dress. She said she didn’t even alert him, and only told him that day. Her father, Peralta, acted quickly and constructed the gown in a few hours.
Valera mentioned that her father had always “aspired” to be a business owner. “I always told him to, and he’s always aspired to have one. But he came to this country [from the Dominican Republic] at around 33–36 years old. So he just worked hard to get us where we are today,” the 27-year-old said.
Her video received numerous accolades and praise, with the majority applauding her father’s efforts.
The “Renaissance” tour concertgoers have a dress code, according to CNN. The theme is Afro-futurist disco fantasia, and in an effort to imitate an “alien superstar,” followers have so far donned silver cowboy boots, bejeweled caps, and other inventive clothing.
