While the world continues to experience unprecedented hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ghanaians will still commemorate March 6th, one of the most important dates in the nation’s history.
On this day, Ghana became the first African nation to seize its independence from colonial rule. Although the country has experienced a year of difficult social restrictions due to the virus, the setback isn’t formidable enough to stop Ghanaians from celebrating this momentous occasion. This year, the Ghana Embassy (Washington DC) is partnering with Blackstar Agency, and other Ghanaian organizations, to host a series of virtual events from Friday, March 5th (5 pm EST) to Sunday, March 7th (7 pm EST).

Day 1: Virtual Reception & Ghana Diaspora Town Hall With Embassy of Ghana (Friday March 5th, 5PM EST)
Discussion topics will include:
Current State of Affairs In Ghana, Trade & Investments, Tourism, Beyond The Return, Unlocking Opportunities Through Diaspora Partnerships, etc
The speaker lineup includes the Head of Mission At The Ghana Embassy, Mrs. Genevieve Apaloo, The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, The Manager of Beyond The Return Project, Mrs. Annabelle Mckenzie, The Head of Information and Public Affairs, Mr. Kofi Tonto, the Head of Trade & Investments, Mrs. Cynthia Djokoto and other heads at the Ghana Embassy.
The reception will start with an independence message by the Head of Mission. Then the other speakers will also give a short overview of the various topics. There will be plenty of time at the end for Q&A to give the Diaspora the opportunity to engage directly with the Embassy on various topics.
Day 2 – Sankofa Virtual Music Concert (Saturday March 6th, 3PM EST)
A Ghana culture extravaganza designed not only to showcase the best of Ghanaian talent, but also to share and celebrate the legacy, rich history and culture of Ghana with the world.
The concert will feature over 15 Ghanaian DJs, artist performances, professional MCs, special guest speakers and a segment for the recognition of partner organizations making an impact in the Diaspora.
Day 3 – Music For Your Quarantine Feet (Sunday March 7th, 3PM EST)
The final day of the celebration will be on the popular “Music For Your Quarantine Feet” show with popular Ghanaian DJ & presenter DJ Fisho and other top Ghanaian Blackstar DJs
