Father fatally shot by teen who sneaked into his home to see his underage daughter: police

A 34-year-old Louisiana father was fatally shot multiple times after confronting a teenager who had sneaked into his home to see his underage daughter, police said.

According to WBRZ, police said the altercation between the underage girl’s father Dezmon Hamilton and 17-year-old Nicholas Mcquirter happened on Sunday morning at the Hayfield Drive residence of the deceased parent. Though the incident was initially said to be a reported break-in, authorities, on Monday, established the teenage shooter actually sneaked into Hamilton’s home to see his 14-year-old daughter.

The altercation that ensued between the two males resulted in Hamilton sustaining multiple gunshot wounds leading to his death. Mcquirter also sustained injuries but was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Police Chief David McDavid said they believe Mcquirter gained access to the home by climbing up a ladder to a window on the second-story. Hamilton and Mcquirter then got into a confrontation after the parent realized the teen was in his home. Things, however, escalated and the two males – who were armed – exchanged gunfire, according to the police. Prior to the fatal encounter, police also said Hamilton had told Mcquirter to stay away from his daughter on numerous occasions. But that fell on deaf ears, WBRZ reported.

“The daughter’s mother and grandmother came over to discuss what was going on. The grandmother and her daughter took the 14-year-old off to the side and were talking to her. An argument ensued and then gunshots were fired,” McDavid told Louisiana Radio Network.

Authorities are, however, yet to establish who opened fire. That notwithstanding, Mcquirter will be charged with second-degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, and illegal possession of a stolen firearm once he’s discharged from the hospital.
