Five Black female songwriters you didn’t know are behind your favorite hit tracks

When Gordon was 18, she penned down “Gonna Breakthrough” for Mary J Blige’s 2005 album, The Breakthrough.

At 19, she was signed to Atlantic Records and is credited with writing three hits on Beyonce’s epic album “Lemonade” — “Don’t Hurt Yourself”, “Daddy’s Lessons” and “Sorry.”

Most recently, she wrote “Livin It Up” by Ciara featuring Nicki Minaj and Chloe x Halle’s “The Kids Are Alright.”
