An icon in Africa’s music industry, N’Dour’s fame cut across the borders of the continent. Tapping into native African rhythms, his influence elevated him and he kept company with the likes of Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Wyclef Jean, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Neheh Cherry, Branford Marsalis and dozens of others.
An ardent activist, his commitment to the cause inspired him to run for the presidency of Senegal. Although he was disqualified, the new president gave him an appointment as Minister of Culture and Tourism.
