Known for its mountainous landscape, luscious rainforests and warm, tropical climate, the Caribbean island nation of Dominica gained independence from Britain on November 3, 1978.

Located south of Guadeloupe and northwest of Martinique, the country, which is one of the youngest islands in the Caribbean, aged about 26 million years old, is one of the top destinations for many who want sun and sand.

It is also home to some of the richest cultural traditions in the world, combining aspects from the Kalinago, French, and English—reflecting the power struggles of the last 500 years that eventually ended with its independence.
