Forget tea and coffee, try these popular African porridges for breakfast

Rice Porridge

Don’t be boring, find new ways of eating foods like many West Africans. Rice Porridge 0r Rice water, as it is commonly called in Ghana and parts of Nigeria, is a breakfast favourite for many. The meal is very easy to make and just needs extra time, water and stir. Its like cooking rice but this time with extra water and less salt. The rice is cooked in water and stirred until it becomes a soft porridge product. Once ready, it is ready to serve by adding sugar and milk and usually eaten with a slice of bread or fried doughnuts. Some people prefer to eat it while hot and others love it cold. One can go fancy with it by breaking the rice into smaller grains so that it is finer (especially for babies), boiling it in milk instead of water and adding essence,  nutmeg and cinnamon. Or adding sliced fruits or nuts when its ready. Either way, its a must-try breakfast meal for everyone.
