Colbie Young, a Georgia college football player, has been arrested on charges of battery and assault on an unborn child.

Young, a wide receiver for Georgia, was taken into custody on Tuesday after an altercation with a 20-year-old woman, who identified herself to police as Young’s ex-girlfriend. According to the police report obtained by The Associated Press, the woman stated that she went to Young’s apartment “to discuss their relationship.”

The report indicates that the conversation became heated after the woman discovered Young was on the phone with another woman. She told police that Young “physically pulled her out of his room” and “grabbed her from behind,” adding that he “picked her up and squeezed her torso and abdomen very hard.” The woman said she believed Young “was trying to harm her.”

The arresting officer noted that the woman had a bruise, discoloration, and redness, which Young denied causing. Young also denied grabbing her, according to the police report.

Young’s attorney, Kim Stephens, asserted that his client had no intention of harming the woman.

“Colbie Young was arrested after asking his ex-girlfriend to leave his apartment,” Stephens told AP. “He did not physically contact her in any way that could be considered a crime. I expect Mr. Young to be fully exonerated once our investigation is complete and the truth is revealed.”

Young, a senior from Binghamton, New York, transferred to Georgia after two seasons at Miami. He has recorded 11 receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns in five games for No. 5 Georgia, including two starts. In last week’s 31-13 victory over Auburn, Young led the team with three catches for 51 yards.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart did not issue an immediate statement on Young’s arrest. When asked about Young’s status after Tuesday’s practice for the upcoming game against Mississippi State, Smart said, “I know you guys want to know about Colbie, but it’s a pending legal matter.”

Young was released on a $3,800 bond Tuesday afternoon. His status for the Mississippi State game remains uncertain, as Smart typically does not announce player suspensions following arrests.
