Halle Berry has opened up about her relationship with musician Van Hunt, and says he is the first man she fell “madly in love” with before becoming intimate.
In a recent interview with Marie Claire, the Oscar-winning actress spoke candidly about her connection with Hunt, with whom she has been romantically involved since 2020.
“It was the first time I was madly in love before I had sex,” Berry, 58, shared with the publication. “That has never happened to me, ever. Talk about one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical.”

Berry, who made history as the first black woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress, said her newfound self-awareness played a key role in her meeting Hunt. “I created my career. I was intentional about that,” she explained. “But I had never been that intentional with my relationships. I was loosey-goosey with that.”
She further elaborated, “You have to be clear with the universe [or] any old thing will find you. … The minute I started to feel like I understood myself and what I had been doing wrong, Van’s brother, who I had known for many years, came to me and said, ‘You should meet my brother.'”
Berry and Hunt began their relationship during the COVID-19 pandemic, initially bonding over phone conversations for four months before meeting in person. In an earlier interview with AARP, Berry said she fell in love with Hunt’s “mind and conversation” before anything else.
Reflecting on her past, Berry, who has been married three times and has two children, noted that her journey to finding love hasn’t been easy. “It took me a minute to get it right,” she said, but added that she now believes Hunt is “the one.”
“This is my person,” she said, expressing confidence in their future together.
Berry has had a series of high-profile relationships and public breakups, including marriages to former MLB player David Justice, singer Eric Benét, and actor Olivier Martinez, with whom she shares a son, Maceo-Robert. She is currently seeking sole custody of their son. She also shares a daughter, Nahla Ariela, with model Gabriel Aubry.
At 58, Berry says she feels stronger and more confident than ever. “Age is just a number that they stick on us at birth,” she said, adding that women are often unfairly defined by their age compared to men. “I feel like I’m now at the pinnacle.”
Fans have responded positively to Berry’s comments, with many expressing their support for her relationship and her embrace of love later in life
