Authorities in Texas said a 17-year-old Willis High School student assaulted his basketball coach after he was benched during a game because of his behavior. Per KHOU, authorities said Jevin Allen’s older brother, Jarrick Allen, 22, also partook in the attack.

The brothers, who were arrested on December 5, have since been charged with assault on a public servant. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the coach was attacked after a basketball game between Willis High School and Conroe High School. Authorities said that the coach benched Jevin because of his conduct towards a Conroe High School player, causing the 17-year-old suspect’s family to take issue with the victim’s action. Jevin and his family subsequently confronted the coach after they got back to Willis High School.

Authorities said the confrontation at the parking lot was initially an argument Jevin’s family started with the coach. But things turned physical after the coach was punched in the face by Jevin. The teen’s brother Jarrick also joined his brother in the attack, authorities said, adding that another coach and witnesses ultimately stepped in to break up the fight before the brothers fled the scene, KHOU reported.

The coach’s account of what occurred was verified by deputies after they examined surveillance footage and spoke to witnesses, authorities said. Deputies also established the attack had resulted in the coach suffering injuries on his head, neck, face, and arms.

The brothers were eventually located and arrested before being booked at the Montgomery County Jail. They were, however, released after they posted a $23,000 bond that was set on each of them.

The district in a statement provided an update on the coach’s condition and also said the student has since been withdrawn from the school.

“We can confirm the incident did occur, and that the coach is recovering well,” the statement said. “The investigation is ongoing, but we did determine that the student’s address was no longer valid, so he has been withdrawn from the district. We are deeply saddened by this incident and will not tolerate this behavior from students.”
