Horns

A horn is another important means of communication. This tool is gotten from antelopes and elephant’s ivory tusks. It formed an integral part of items used by hunters in Africa.

The transmission is made possible by cutting an embouchure or mouthpiece a couple of centimetres away from the tip of the horn and by sawing off the point where a small opening is created linking up to the hollow inside of the instrument. By so doing, the player of the instrument can create two tones of the message which allows him to send encoded messages. It is blown before and after the hunt.
