African Gong

The gankeke bell, or African Gong, is one the most basic tool of communication. Used mostly between Kings and subjects, it is played in most of southern Benin cultures. Its shape varies from region to region depending on what it is used for. In the Adja-Fon cultural area, small gongs (20 to 30 cm) are used primarily in folk groups. There are also bigger gongs that can be up to 50 cm in length.
