Rapper Nardo Wick has come under public backlash after a disturbing video emerged capturing the moment men alleged to be members of his entourage brutally beat up a young fan, George Obregon Jr, who had requested a photo.
The 20-year-old fan suffered severe injuries, including a critical concussion and brain bleed, leading to hospitalization. The incident occurred around 1:15 am after Wick’s show at Club Skye in Tampa, Florida. Police are investigating the assault.
Footage of the incident shows Obregon Jr approaching rapper Wick and his entourage before being unexpectedly punched by one of the men around the rapper, leading him to collide with a brick wall.
While Obregon Jr seems incapacitated, another person believed to be a member of Wick’s group proceeds to punch him multiple times. Throughout the assault, Wick is heard instructing the assailant to chill, according to Daily Mail.
Following the initial punches, Obregon Jr is seen falling to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement. Rapper Wick is also seen pulling the attacker away from him.
A representative for Wick denied claims of the assailant being a bodyguard or part of the security team, stating that they were not directly affiliated with Wick. Obregon Jr’s family has expressed anger on social media, calling for justice for the young man.
Michelle, Obregon Jr’s mother, took to Facebook to express her distress, emphasizing that her son was never aggressive and only wanted a photo with his favorite artist. She pleaded for justice for her son, describing him as a gentle and sweet young man with no involvement in drugs, alcohol, or gangs. Michelle said she felt deep anguish and asserted that she couldn’t stay silent about the incident.
Tampa police informed TMZ that Obregon Jr is currently in stable but critical condition, and it remains unclear if he will suffer any long-term damage from his injuries. Authorities are actively working to identify the attackers and have appealed to the public for assistance in their investigation.
Wick’s Instagram has been inundated with outraged comments addressing the disturbing assault. The fans were concerned about the quality of his security, with one remark expressing anticipation of a significant lawsuit.
Some commenters link the incident to a broader criticism of the promotion of violence, guns, and drugs in the rap industry, calling it disgusting.
Some of Wick’s fans however defended him on Instagram, highlighting that he actively intervened by pulling one of the assailants off Obregon Jr. They noted that Wick seemed to instruct his entourage to “chill.”
Despite the incident, Wick, hailing from Jacksonville, maintained a substantial following on Instagram, boasting over two million followers.
Known for his 2021 track “Who Want Smoke?”, he has collaborated with prominent rappers such as 21 Savage, Future, and Lil Baby.
The rapper posted a statement on social media Tuesday about the incident, saying he doesn’t condone what happened.
“I sent his mama my number instantly the night it happened. I was even gone make a post to try to find out who he was before his mama text me.
