British actor Idris Elba has married his fiancée, Sabrina Dhowre, in a three-day ceremony in Morocco. The two, who got engaged in 2018, exchanged vows at the Ksar Char Bagh hotel in Marrakesh on Friday, April 26.
In stunning photos released by British Vogue, Elba wore a bespoke suit by Ozwald Boateng while his bride, a 29-year-old model and former Miss Vancouver, wore an off-the-shoulder white gown by Vera Wang.
Dhowre, who was born in the U.S. and of Somali descent, later changed into a pearl embroidered dress for the reception. Guests wore black tie.
The night before the ceremony, Elba and Dhowre hosted a “colours of the Souk” themed dinner at Amanjena, according to Vogue.
To crown the celebrations, the newlyweds will, along with their family and friends, attend an all-white party at the Mandarin Oriental on Saturday, which will emulate the atmosphere of a festival, the fashion magazine added.
Dhowre had, in March, celebrated her bachelorette party with some of her closest friends at Utah’s luxury Amangiri resort.
46-year-old film star Idris Elba met Dhowre while he was making his 2017 thriller, The Mountain Between Us, in Canada. The two fell in love and made their first public appearance together at the premiere of Molly’s Game during the Toronto International Film Festival.
In February 2018, Elba thrilled crowds as he got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend ahead of a screening of his film Yardie at Rio cinema, Dalston.
He would later tell People that his bended-knee proposal “was the most nerve-wracking thing for me ever,” adding, “But in terms of wanting to make someone feel super special and feel my love, that was pretty romantic for me.”
Elba, who is a father to 17-year-old daughter Isan and 4-year-old son Winston, previously married Hanne Norgaard and Sonya Hamlin.
Film lovers are rooting for the Hollywood actor to take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond.
