I really feel very male sometimes.”

When speaking to W Magazine in 2018, Jones said: “I really feel very male sometimes. I act it as well. I do act it, and I’m not sure if has to do with I was actually born with more male in a female body. I embrace both of them.”

Jones’ androgenic exhibitionism, it would seem, is definitely exhibitionism. But what it is not is performative – it is not a foil for show, at least, not for her because as far as Jones was concerned, she was being true to herself.

She had spoken in many other interviews about how she longed to be accepted for who she is. But the transcendence of what she purported to show, gender in a flux, was a big pill for too many to swallow.
