For all the right reasons, Sarah Akinbuwa has become quite popular. For about sixty dollars, the Boston teen created a floor-length prom dress inspired by Zendaya using crochet.

Akinbuwa told People that she was invited to someone else’s prom, but she chose to make a dress for herself after learning that she would only have four days to get ready.

In just three days, the 18-year-old, who is a skilled crocheter, created her dress — a pink, strapless floor-length gown with crocheted roses on the lower half, a matching handmade floor-length shrug, and a crocheted handbag.

She was inspired by Zendaya’s 2023 SAG Awards outfit, which was made by Valentino Haute Couture and featured 190 roses on the skirt.

While Akinbuwa’s video on TikTok featuring the behind-the-scenes process of crafting her prom look has received over 26 million views, another video of her wearing the dress in a public bathroom has also received many views.

The proud teen told the outlet, “I have been crocheting since I was 12.”

Beyond creating her own dress, Akinbuwa disclosed that she “makes custom orders” for friends, relatives, and followers on social media.

Going forward, Akinbuwa stated, “I have to be a fashion designer.”
