Authorities in Brazil will reportedly arrest and charge Kanye West if he performs his controversial song, Heil Hitler, at his upcoming concert in the South American nation.
Kanye, 48, released the song in May, and he received backlash because of its antisemitic content. The song was ultimately taken down from Digital Service Providers.
Per XXL, Kanye, who is known as Ye, has been booked to perform in the Brazilian city of São Paulo on November 29, though the location hasn’t been announced yet. But in a report on Tuesday, Brazilian newspaper, Metropoles, stated that local police had been directed by the São Paulo State Public Prosecutor’s Office to arrest and charge Kanye with racism should he take the stage to perform Heil Hitler.
Besides that, Kanye is expected to adhere to other guidelines not just at the concert, but in Brazil, and failure to do so will result in authorities arresting and charging him. The College Dropout rapper will land himself in trouble if he also “makes any apology for Nazism” or is spotted in clothes that have Nazi symbols.
The show’s promoters will also be on the receiving end as they will be arrested if Kanye goes against the orders. The order was passed after councilwoman Cris Monteiro made an official complaint with the 2nd Public Prosecutor’s Office for Human Rights and asked for steps to be taken to avert such actions.
Kanye has been stoking controversy on social media for a while now, and he was heavily criticized for repeatedly making antisemitic comments and openly expressing his support for Nazism. The 48-year-old, who is also a fashion designer, was previously spotted wearing a shirt with the Nazi logo, XXL reported. A video that was posted on social media additionally showed him wearing a diamond-encrusted swastika chain.
Kanye, however, appears to have turned over a new leaf, as he claimed that he was no longer going to propagate antisemitism in May.
“I love all people,” he shared on X. “God forgive me for the pain I’ve caused…I forgive those who have caused me pain…Thank you God…I simply got a FaceTime from my kids and I wanna save the world again…The earth itself is in Gods Kingdom…GOD CALLS FOR PEACE…Share peace…Share love.”
Kanye also apologized for his actions during a meeting with a Jewish rabi last week.
