Every makeup bag must have a mascara. It is a staple that is highly underrated but very essential to complete one’s makeup. There are different types of mascara. They come in different colors like brown or blue but the basic mascara that most people lean towards is black.
The types do not end there. Some give more volume, others add length and even some perform both functions. Others even add more curl to the lashes.
Here are some black-owned mascara brands that you should consider when making your next purchase.
Fenty
Rihanna launched her cosmetic line in 2017 and it sold out in minutes. Her line has since expanded to now include a mascara line after it expanded its foundation line to 50. The mascara line is called “Cuz I’m Black” and its meta description is “true black”.
Black Opal
Black Opal is every black girl’s staple because I bet everyone has owned their make up at a point in time. This drug store line’s ColorSplurge Super Volumizing Mascara is under $10.
The business was co-founded by Greek chemist Niko Mouyiaris and his Jamaican wife in 1994 with the help of a Jamaican chemist. The OG owners resold it to another black company.
The Lip Bar
The “Lash Flash Strengthening Mascara” by Melissa Butler has all the goodies infused that promote stronger lashes after a prolonged period. Butler started her line in her kitchen by making lipsticks and now she is part of the few black-owned makeup brands offering a full line of cosmetics.
Beauty Bakerie
This culinary-themed brand by Cashmere Nicole has a mascara line “Eyelash Icing” that comes in a tube to resemble that of an icing tube that allows the user to squeeze. Nicole puts as much thought in the names as the packaging and we love it.
Pat McGrath Labs
A black girl from London who loves makeup has created a niche for herself since the 90s. “Pat Mcgrath is and has always been KING when it comes to contour fashion’s runway makeup. There isn’t a single iconic model who hasn’t called on her talents.”
From Alexander McQueen to Dior, you name it. You should know that with her years of experience, her own line, “FetishEyes” Mascara which goes for $30 is worth every penny.
