Friends Sonya Lowery and Wendy Pittman had over 20 years of combined experience working in the medical aesthetic industry but wanted to do something innovative.
In 2021, they talked about creating a space that combines aesthetics and medical services, leading to the founding of Peel Haus Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, the first and only aesthetic and plastic surgery center located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, DC.
In 2022, Board-certified Nurse Practitioner Sorelle Jones joined the team and today, together with two plastic surgeons (a nurse practitioner and a master medical esthetician), they provide a variety of services and specialties including premium medical-grade skincare services, chemical peels, wrinkle-relaxers, soft-tissue fillers, facial rejuvenation, and cosmetic plastic surgery, according to their website.
Peel Haus facials are not just feel-good treatments but are based on evidence with proven results that “improve the activity and health of your skin on a cellular level,” Cooper, President and CEO, was quoted by hillrag.com.
Holding a B.A. and a B.S. with honors from the State University of New York at Buffalo and a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Johns Hopkins University, Cooper was formerly a primary care provider with several patients across the U.S. and internationally.
She has worked in dermatology, plastic surgery, and aesthetics practices in the DC/MD/VA Metro area and is currently a DermCare Team Member of the American Academy of Dermatology and an aesthetic consultant to Rabito Clinic, the largest provider of dermatology services in Ghana.
As someone who enjoys educating others about aesthetics and believes that everyone deserves to enhance their natural beauty and feel their best, co-founding Peel Haus to bring a new standard for cosmetic care wasn’t surprising.
As to why they chose the Hill for their business, Cooper said, “The Hill chose us. We love this community. Many of our clients come from the Hill.”
In the whole of the U.S., all aesthetic procedures generated $11.8 billion in 2022, with $8.5 billion of the figure being generated from surgical cosmetic procedures. The plastic surgery market is now projected to reach $75.20 billion by 2030 as cosmetic procedures rise. More people are getting cosmetic surgery because they want to feel better about the way they look. However, plastic surgery has not always welcomed Blacks. According to a 2020 report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), only 11 percent of patients who get cosmetic surgery are Black, and less than three percent of plastic surgeons are Black.
With a wide range of the latest injectables including Botox and dermal fillers as well as chemical peels, microneedling, laser hair removal, and liposuction, the three powerful Black women at Peel Haus strive to provide natural results to their clients while championing equity and inclusion in aesthetic medicine.
