by Meghan Reid, 1:00am November 02, 2011,

This past week African designers ruled the runway at MTN Lagos Fashion Week 2011 held at the Eko Convention Center, Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. The fabulous 4-day event brought the most talented, trendsetting designers together to create an amazing celebration of fashion; presenting beautiful pieces from designers like Kelechi Odu, and Jewel by Lisa, Grey, Amede, Sunny Rose, Maki Oh and many more!

Kelechi Odu’s men’s line was the perfect mixture of traditional Western wear with African accents. His ability to incorporate soft bright colors like salmon, pink, yellow and still maintain strong masculine attributes is absolutely amazing. The tailored pants with the blazers are classic looks with Odu’s edge.

Jewel by Lisa was the very feminine and incorporated beautiful prints, which made her designs powerful. The line was very versatile in that it included long dresses, short dresses; pant suit, shorts and skirts. Jewel by Lisa covered every aspect of women’s day and eveningwear.

The Grey line was a beautiful collection of colorful solid dresses with some prints mixed in. These designs were simply stunning and perfect for any type of formal gathering.  Whether you are going for a feminine business look or attending a wedding or dinner party Grey is your go to designer.

There were so many other designers that made MTN Lagos Fashion Week 2011 a huge success, such as Mango, Okunoren Twins, Exclamations Couture by Fab, Lanre Da Silva, Ituen Basi, Anita Quanash, Koketso Chiepe/Phunk Afrique, Kiki Kamanu/Obsidian, Bridget Awosika, and Odio Mimonet. Who was your favorite?
