Alijah Arenas, a Southern California basketball recruit and the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, is expected to be discharged “very soon” following his hospitalization in the aftermath of a car crash that resulted in him being placed into an induced coma.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Alijah, 18, crashed a Tesla Cybertruck into a tree and fire hydrant in Los Angeles on April 24. Despite the reported severity of the crash, Sports Illustrated‘s Tarek Fattal said that Alijah “suffered no major bodily injuries.”
Josiah Johnson, who is a co-host on Gilbert Arenas’ Gil’s Arena podcast, provided an update on Alijah’s condition on Monday, saying that the basketball prodigy did not suffer any “major injuries” from the fiery crash, ESPN reported.
“Happy to announce that Alijah is doing much better,” Johnson said. “Just got off the phone with Gil. … Alijah’s doing better, walking, talking, progressing very well, should be released from the hospital very soon. No major injuries as a result of the car accident.”

In the wake of the crash, Alijah’s father took to Instagram to announce that he had canceled his Gil’s Arena show that was scheduled to take place. “I need all youre [sic] f**ken prayers,” Alijah’s mother, Laura Govan, also wrote on Instagram on April 24.
