Nigerian professional footballer and striker for Serie A club, SSC Napoli, Victor Osimhen, clinched the 2022 Best Foreign Athlete of the Year award in Italy. According to a statement released by the Foreign Press Association in Italy, the 24-year-old prolific striker, who has remained a threat to many defense lines, was chosen by Foreign Press journalists as the best foreign athlete for his contributions to the sport.

The Stampa Estera Prize is one of the many awards Victor Osimhen has won in the 2022-23 Serie A Season. The striker displayed blistering performances in the 2022-23 Season and was instrumental to the crowning of Napoli as the Serie A 2022-23 Champion. His 26-goal tally that made him the first African to claim Serie A’s top scorer award also powered Napoli to their first league title in 33 years.

He was also named the ‘Emerging Player of the Year’ at the 2022 Globe Soccer Awards, defeating Barcelona’s Gavi and Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde for the award meant for the best young footballer in the world.

Victor was accompanied by the President of SSC Napoli, Aurelio De Laurentiis, to the Foreign Press Awards ceremony and subsequent press conference. According to the organizers of the award, the athlete deserved the prize because he was “fundamental to Napoli’s extraordinary success, thanks to his excellent play, great power, incredible speed, and vocation for scoring goals.”
