Yul Edochie declares intention to run for presidency in Nigeria

Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie’s intention to run for the highest office in Nigeria has been met with mixed reactions in the country.

The 36-year-old movie star cum politician disclosed via his social media page on Monday that he will be contesting the presidency.

Yul recently contested the governorship position of Anambra State but had 145  votes, one of the lowest in the race.

His critics are questioning his competence following what they call his poor performance at the Anambra gubernatorial election.

But for some young people, his intention to contest the presidency comes as a welcome relief for them, particularly after President Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘lazy youth’ comment.

Muhammadu Buhari

Buhari’s comments were met with harsh criticism, with Nigerian youth either stating the strides they have taken in their lives or highlighting some of the systemic failures that have limited them from achieving their dreams.

Hence, the decision by Edochie, who is also the son of veteran actor Pete Edochie, to run for the presidency could not have come at a better time, some young Nigerians have said.

But others are not enthused.

Here’s how Nigerians are reacting to the news on Twitter:
