Mersa Matrouh
Mersa Matrouh, previously called Amunia, is a port city that is 150 miles west of Alexandria and 138 miles from Sallum on the main highway from the Nile Delta to the Libyan border.
When the Romans infiltrated Egypt, the harbor served as a pivotal point of trade and shipping of goods to Rome.
It also previously served as a British base during World War I.
It now houses white sand beaches with extremely hot summers and winters that include rain, sleet and hail.
